Introduction At the threshold where primal forces dwell,
awaken your deepest instincts.
At 1,500 meters above sea level, surrounded by primeval forests where wild creatures roam freely, lies a sacred site of Shugendo—a realm that can truly be called the boundary between humanity and nature. This is where your story unfolds. Experience the timeless primal power and blessings unchanged since ancient times, and embark on a fundamental journey to reclaim your instincts.
Experience 01 Standing at the threshold of the liminal world.
A wooden structure rests quietly on the lakeside. The host serves as your guide to this "liminal world" between nature and humanity. As you sip wild herb tea, the clamor of the mundane world washes away. Here begins a journey of tranquil nature tourism through spring, summer, autumn, and winter—as if wandering through a fable.
Experience 02 Confronting your inner self before nature's
profound depth and unfathomable mystery.
Bang, bang, bang. The sharp crack of a pistol echoes—a warning to wild animals. An indescribable tension marks the crossing beyond the human realm. In spring, new life sprouts from weathered earth. In summer, thousand-year-old moss forests deepen to emerald green. Immersed in this sanctuary pulsing with life, a profound sense of awe toward nature surges from the depths of your soul.
As seasons turn, the sanctuary reveals its harsher face. Autumn brings wind-trembling rocky precipices set against mountains ablaze with color. Then comes winter—a frozen world illuminated by the serene full moon cloaked in stillness. In the innermost depths of this sanctuary, wrapped in millennia of solitude, you stand face to face with your inner self before nature's absolute power.
Experience 03 Tracing the memories of the mountain ascetics
with all five senses.
In a certain room at the lodge, the earth's bounty quietly matures—spring buds, summer medicinal herbs, autumn nuts—each harvested in its season, silently aging with time as an ally. Glass jars line the shelves, wild herbs hang from the ceiling. Each time the wind passes through, layers of mountain fragrance rise into the air.
The meals served are blessings of this land found nowhere else. Iwatake (rock mushrooms) growing on sheer cliffs, saruogase (old man's beard lichen) nurtured only by mountain mist atop conifer branches—the very foods once consumed by mountain ascetics during their training are recreated through ancient cooking methods and atmospheric presentation. Here lies the ultimate experience: savoring the mountain's story not only through taste, but through sight, scent, sound, and touch—engaging all five senses completely.
